Hello

Welcome, I am Ryan Rosser. It is my honor to serve as Superintendent of South Rock Creek School.  Our goal is to provide the best education that we possibly can.  Our school is marked by a commitment to educational excellence and a supportive school community of students, parents, faculty, and staff. Together, we will strive to assist all students in reaching their academic goals.

School History

South Rock Creek School has an incredible history dating back to its organization in 1902. Generous contributions from the Romberg family played a pivotal role in establishing the school on a piece of land located one mile north and half a mile east of the present-day South Rock Creek School. The deed included a reverter clause, ensuring that the property would return to the family if the school ceased to exist on the land.

The original school building housed three classrooms and bathrooms, and in the later years, a lunchroom was added just south of the school. The early-day principals, including Ira Bugg, Otis Smith, Mrs. Morgan, Tom Henry, and Johnny Beavers, laid the foundation for the school's success. Notably, Governor Henry's grandparents both served as teachers at SRC during a certain period.

In 1955, South Rock Creek School expanded its reach by annexing two additional schools in the area, Canadian Valley and Fairview. By 1958-59, the school had acquired its first school bus, a significant milestone in its development.

In 1960, the Westboro School was consolidated with SRC after acquiring land from the Keith Jones family, marking a new chapter in the school's history. The construction of a new school plant, situated nearly two miles south of Hwy #3 on Rock Creek Road, began that year. This new facility boasted five classrooms, a cafeteria, restrooms, and a small office. Notably, Odie Burrough, a respected educator, became the first principal at the "new SRC." Over the years, South Rock Creek School continued to grow and adapt to meet the needs of its students.

The community's dedication to education is evident in their unwavering support, as they consistently prioritized passing bond issues and organizing events such as the annual Thanksgiving Dinner. The school underwent numerous expansions and improvements over the years, reflecting its commitment to providing a quality education.

From the installation of air conditioning in every room in 1976 to the significant addition of new classrooms, a library, expanded computer program in 1993, and tornado-safe rooms in 2018, South Rock Creek School has embraced continuous improvement in all facets of its operation. The school's proud and enthusiastic community has played a crucial role in enabling these advancements, ensuring that students receive an exceptional educational experience.

Thanks to the high academic standards set by our dedicated superintendents, principals, teachers, and parents, SRC students have consistently excelled in Academic Meets and continued their success in surrounding high schools. In fact, there was a year when SRC had valedictorians in Shawnee, Earlsboro, and Tecumseh schools. Recently, South Rock Creek was ranked #5 among middle schools in Oklahoma by U.S. News and World Report.  It's an incredible testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, and we couldn't be prouder of our students' achievements.  (Information was taken from a brief history written by Jody Roberts)
